THE Countess of Wessex was welcomed to the New Forest Show ground recently.

Her Royal Highness attended a meeting to encourage more young people to get involved with the running of the popular show.

Denis Dooley, New Forest and Hampshire County Show secretary, said: “We were delighted that the Countess was able to meet with our next generation committee and support the future of our show society.

“We were honoured that she has shown an interest in the committee and the future of our organisation.”

The Earl and Countess of Wessex visited the show in 2013 where they attended the grand parade and watched the heavy horse musical drive as well as visiting other areas of the showground.

Jenna Bessant, chairman of the next generation committee, added: “The next generation committee was delighted and privileged for the chance to not only meet the Countess, but for her to be able to join in with our committee meeting.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for us, as a new group to highlight the role of the young people who are becoming involved with the show and the need for them to learn valuable skills from other stewards and committee members.

“The fact Her Royal Highness is interested in what we are doing speaks volumes and her input into the meeting was invaluable.”

The show will be held at New Park, Brockenhurst on July 29, 30, and 31.
