POOLE Quay was filled with thousands of people and a range of music over the weekend for the second annual Folk on the Quay.

The event took place on Saturday and Sunday and featured over 20 different music acts across four different stages, with fringe events at many local pubs and restaurants.

Music acts who performed at the event include Rory McCleod and the Familiar Strangers, Sheelanagig and the Urban Folk Quartet.

Last year the event attracted huge crowds, with over 10,000 people predicted to have visited at some point during the first Folk on the Quay festival.

Graham Richardson, Poole Tourism Manager, said: “It’s gone very well. We had around 5,000 people throughout the day on Poole Quay on Saturday.

“The weather was also great for us. We had a host of street performers, street dancing, Morris dancing, and lots more entertainment for families.

“As well as the main events, there were also fringe events in many places including at The Stable, the Custom House, The Lord Nelson and The Jolly Sailor.”

Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of the Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “It was a fantastic line-up this year, bringing some great folk artists to Poole with a variety of music and styles.

“And with so many local bands taking part, it’s a real reflection of the town’s thriving local music scene.”

It was organised by Paul and Catherine Burke together with Poole Tourism, with support from Folk Dorset and aimed to be a free entry opportunity to see a host of live music.
