Police hunt for hit and run driver after incident at Sainsbury's, Pitwines, Poole
A SUPERMARKET security guard was taken to hospital after a fleeing shoplifter drove a car into him.
The thief, who had stolen some wine, got into a vehicle pursued by the security guard.
The car then hit the guard and left the scene.
The drama occurred at Sainsbury’s in Pitwines Close, Poole, at 1.29pm, on Thursday lunchtime.
Detective Sergeant Julie Dransfield of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said that, fortunately, the security guard was not seriously injured.
She added: “The offending vehicle is a blue Citroen Xsara and two men were seen in the car. One of them is described as white, approximately 45 years old and of athletic build.
“He is bald and was wearing a white shirt under a grey blazer and dark jeans.”
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that they received a call at 1.31pm and an ambulance crew attended to a man who received leg and ankle injuries after being hit by a car.
The man was taken to Poole Hospital to receive treatment.
Sainsbury’s confirmed that an incident occurred at its store in Pitwines Close which involved a shoplifter stealing an amount of alcohol.
The spokesperson said that the security guard gave chase and as he turned a corner outside the store, he was hit by a car.
Detective Sergeant Dransfield urged witnesses and anyone with information to contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 26:206.
