World Cup 2014: Why I think Switzerland could be the underdogs

Bournemouth Echo: Sasha Hasatroudi Sasha Hasatroudi

GROUP E gets under way at the World Cup in Brazil today, with 1998 champions France in action.

They take on Honduras at 8pm, but before that Switzerland are up against Ecuador at 5pm.

Sasha Hasatroudi, who lives in Talbot Woods, will be backing the country of his birth and cheering on the Swiss.

He said: “I think they’re a bit of an underdog team.

“People don’t realise they are strong. They have such a young squad and they were the only team to beat (eventual champions) Spain four years ago.

“France is the only team that I think will cause them problems, but after watching Ecuador against England, they look like a strong team too.

“It’s probably their most important game, as if they beat Ecuador and Honduras they won’t need to beat France.

“I think they will qualify second after France.”

Today’s late game sees 1978 and 1986 World Cup winners Argentina take on Bosnia-Hercegovina in the first Group F game.

The Argentineans, who feature the prolific captain Lionel Messi among their ranks, will be looking to mount a strong challenge in their native South America in the 11pm kick-off.
