LOCAL residents, berth holders and boating enthusiasts packed Poole's Cobb's Quay marina as it held an open weekend.

Held in conjunction with the RYA's Active Marina programme, activities ranged from hula hoop workshops, rib simulator rides, remote control boat races, a climbing wall, fire juggling show and the 55-strong Just Sing choir provided a soundtrack to the event.

Powerboat Training UK provided training sessions which included a man-overboard rescue, while the RNLI provided onshore demonstrations of sea safety, lifejacket checks and boat maintenance. And Poole Boat Hire offered boat trips and rental.

Paul Glatzel of Powerboat Training UK said: “There were lots of things to do for all ages - Cobbs Quay was buzzing with activity and people enjoying themselves in the sun.”

The marina at Hamworthy also hosted the Clipper Marine Used Boat Show and Cobb's Yacht Club Bar and Restaurant got so busy there was standing room only in the garden at one stage.

Neil Salter, general manager at Cobb's Quay said: “We're thrilled with the turnout the marina has seen over the weekend. It was brilliant to be able to showcase Cobb's Quay and the facilities and services available.

“The weather was glorious which helped put all our visitors in fantastic spirits to enjoy the many activities on offer, but it was great to see the interest not only in the family activities and the boats on sale but also in the safety aspects of boating from training services and the RNLI.”
