A FUNDRAISING appeal set up in memory of a popular nurse has raised thousands of pounds for Forest Holme Hospice.

Angie Simms was just 55 when she died in February following a five-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Her devastated family have gone on to raise more than £5,500 for the hospice that cared for her and supported them before she died.

A tea, coffee and cake sale at her favourite cafe, Corfe Coffee in Corfe Mullen, boosted the total and the final fundraising event will be a James Bond themed evening today.

Her husband Martin said: “We initially hoped to raise £1,000 but we’ve got more than £5,500 now, which is fantastic.

“Forest Holme hospice were brilliant; the care they gave her in the last days was second to none.

“We hope the money will help them buy a couple of new reclining beds.”

Angie, who had three children and four grandchildren, worked at Poole Hospital for more than 20 years before becoming a highly-respected district nurse.

She was a keen netball player in the local league and enjoyed hashing, which is a form of non-competitive cross-country running.

She was a long-serving member of the Wessex Hash House Harriers, where she was known as ‘Inside Out’ and travelled the world on international hashing events.
