MORE than 100 people turned out for the re-opening of a Poole hospice which was launched by a daredevil OAP.

The ribbon on the £1million re-build of Forest Holme Hospice, on Seldown Road, was cut by 92-year-old Ada Newman, who did a skydive in 2011 for the good cause.

However, Ada had her feet firmly on the ground for the re-opening yesterday which was also attended by trustees, sponsors and friends of the charity, including Mayor of Poole, Cllr Phil Eades, and his wife, Helen.

Ada has supported the charity since her husband, Len, received specialist care from Forest Holme, before he died aged 77 in 2000.

She said: “I speak with first-hand experience when I say that the care and support that they offer is second-to-none.”

Ada went on to say she has continued to be supported by Forest Holme Hospice following her late husband’s death, including a monthly coffee morning for those who had someone who received care at Forest Holme.

Anne Currie, Charity Manager, said: “Ada has been a wonderful supporter of the work of Forest Holme Hospice over the years.”

Dr Stephen Kirkham, Chair of Trustees at Forest Holme, said that they were grateful for the money provided to them by NHS England, which had enabled them to create two new bedrooms and a day room.
