POLICE carried out a drugs raid at house in Bournemouth on Saturday morning, detaining one man.

Officers remained outside the property in Western Avenue for around two hours after a “quantity of controlled drugs were located” at the address during the search.

Officers have confirmed one man is helping with their enquires.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “The police were here for quite a while this morning.

“They led a man away and I haven’t seen him come back yet. I think it’s drugs-related.”

She said she didn’t know the man well, although she has lived on the road for more than four years.

“He keeps himself to himself,” she said.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed that officers carried out the raid after a warrant was issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The spokesman added: “During the search a quantity of controlled drugs were located and a male is now assisting officers with their ongoing investigation.

“Police were acting on information gained by officers during their patrols, as well as concerns raised by members of the community.

“As such officers from the North Bournemouth Safer Neighbourhood Team were present during the search to offer reassurance to residents.”

PC Dan Moore, of Winton police station, expressed his thanks to those who came forward with information and reiterated the issue of the misuse of drugs is taken seriously.

He said: “This warrant shows we will listen to the community when they come to us with their concerns.”
