IT’S a sure sign that the nights are getting warmer and summer is on its way.

Poole is set to hear the roar of engines from Tuesday night as the weekly bike nights on the quay get underway for another season.

BLD Dream Machines is set to see around 1,000 bikes gather each Tuesday night from April 1 until September 30.

The quay will be closed off to other traffic to allow spectators to fully enjoy the popular spectacle.

Entry is just £1 a time, or a season armband can be bought for £8.50 on the night, or £7.50 in advance from the Welcome Centre on the quay.

The weekly Bike of the Night competition sees different judges pick out their personal favourite each week.

The winning owner will receive a race kit courtesy of Muc-off and Bike of the Night mug. All weekly winners will also get invited back to take part in the Bike of the Year finale on September 30.

Surplus from ticket sales will be given to charities at the end of the summer.

Bruce Grant-Braham, chairman of the Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “Dream Machines is one of Poole’s most popular events and we are looking forward to a fantastic year with the new sponsors BLD. Its return means that summer has really started in Poole.”

Stuart Dobson, BLD’s operations director, added: “Many of those who come are local, but the reputation of Dream Machines has grown so much that enthusiasts from across the UK regularly attend.

“Having been involved in the event for a couple of years now we’ve seen everything from custom builds to home restoration projects and iconic designs, so the variety of bikes on display is amazing.

“The enthusiasm and passion of everyone involved from the bikers to the marshals is fantastic.

“It’s one of the reasons we wanted to be involved and it’s something we are really proud to support.”
