The south’s top train stations have been revealed today.

Staff at South West Trains’ stations are celebrating after the winners of the company’s annual Station Pride Awards were announced.

Now in their 16th year, the awards recognise the best of the company’s 184 stations.

This year, the judges were looking for examples of high customer service standards displayed by its stations team, including during the prolonged period of adverse weather during the winter.

Basingstoke came first for the Best Large Station of the Year, with Salisbury scooping the Best Medium Station of the Year.

Sherborne in Dorset was named as Best Small Station.

The judges said: “We were very impressed by the South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance team’s positive attitude on the West of England line in particular.

“With the extreme weather conditions that hit our network for almost eight weeks, the team response has been second to none.

“The Alliance team came together with station staff, train crew, track and depot engineers all working incredibly hard to give our passengers the best service possible in unprecedented weather conditions.”

Arthur Pretorius, Customer Service Director for the South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance, added: “These awards recognise the hard work and dedication of our staff.

"We were very pleased to see that the teams at Basingstoke, Salisbury and Sherborne had received a very high number of thank you messages from passengers for the service they have provided.

“For many passengers travelling with us, the station is their first point of contact with South West Trains so it’s absolutely crucial that they start their journey with a positive impression. We would like to congratulate all the winners of this year's station awards"
