Want to perform with the BSO? ‘Rusty and not-so rusty’ musicians given chance to join orchestra in concert

THE Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is offering ‘rusty and not so rusty’ musicians the chance to perform with them in concert.

The orchestra is offering budding musicians of Grade V and above, from young students to those enjoying their retirement, a series of workshops hosted at schools in Bournemouth, Wareham, Gillingham and Bridport, culminating with a concert at the Lighthouse in Poole on Sunday, June 22.

Over a period of six days between April and June, players will learn a full programme of music by Verdi, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Dukas. Many youngsters who have taken part in the project in the past have gone on to become professional musicians.

Project manager Linda Higson said: “Over the years I have witnessed many grow in confidence and enjoy their playing more and more.

“It doesn’t matter if they don’t play all the notes, it’s the thrill of playing alongside a professional orchestra.”

The sessions will be held on Sundays from 10am until 4.30pm, leading to a rehearsal day on June 8. To take part or for more information call 01202 644707 or email lhigson@bsorchestra.co.uk.
