DORSET’S famous White Helmets motorcycle display team has benefited from a tyre partnership worth thousands of pounds.

The Blandford Camp-based riders will benefit from a continuous supply of Bridgestone products for their 50 bikes, as well as branded jackets, fleeces and hooded tops.

Sgt Stevie Marshall of the White Helmets, properly the Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team, said: “The tyre partnership is essential in the running of the team.

“Without it, we probably wouldn’t be able to repair our bikes as all of our money would be swallowed up in buying new tyres.

“The injection of cash from Bridgestone really is invaluable, as our maintenance costs are going up and the bikes are getting older.

“Without it, we’d certainly find it more challenging to fulfill all of our commitments, so Bridgestone’s support really is appreciated.”

The team was formed in 1927 and performs to between 600,000 and one million people over a season.

David Beckham saw them last year and asked to go backstage to meet them, before being presented with a signed white helmet.

Steve Watts, of Leamington Spa-based Bridgestone, said: “To be able to provide tyres to the White Helmets’ fleet of bikes represents a significant investment for us, but one which is hugely beneficial.”
