MORE than 200 horses took part in this year’s Point to Point event at Badbury Rings, organised by the Countryside Alliance.

The racing event raises funds for the alliance and Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

As well as the racing – featuring top level racehorses such as Grand National participant What A Friend – spectators enjoyed terrier racing, the Parade of the Portman Hounds, a shopping village with tackle, country crafts and food stalls.

Committee member Alison Hawes said: “We had a record number of entries this year.

“Badbury Rings is renowned for being very good going and with all the wet weather we have had recently a lot of trainers have been searching for good ground for their horses.

“We had people from Devon, Cornwall, Gloucestershire it is why we had so many.

“It is great for us to be getting some very good horses running, like champion hurdler Khyber Kim.”

The event will be going ahead next year with a new chairman, Sophie Henderson, whose husband Guy is the chairman of Wincanton Racecourse.
