DORSET cancer nurse specialist Liz Gifford is turning to peddle power in the fight against breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.
Liz, 47, of Bournemouth, is part of a group of female cyclists tackling the fourth Women V Cancer challenge riding 400km in Cuba over five days from May 1 to 9.
Liz who has worked in cancer care for 25 years said: “Every day I see so many lives affected by cancer but equally how many people have benefitted from the support of cancer charities.”
The challenge which is open to women of all ages and cycling abilities, will support the work of three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. A donation will also be made to support cancer care in Cuba.
As well as training hard, Liz needs to raise a minimum of £2,900 to support the work of the charities. She is asking local people and companies to reach her target.
She adds: “I’m passion ate about helping people and I also wanted to chall-enge myself as I’ve never done anything like this before.”
To support Liz, you can post a sponsorship donation made payable to Women V Cancer by writing Liz Gifford & Cycle Cuba Group4 on the reverse of the cheque, & sending to Action for Charity, Newcourt House, New Street, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 9BQ or make an online donation through the Just Giving website at justgiving.com/liz-gifford/donate.
