Double yellow lines to be added to Bournemouth town centre road after safety concerns

First published in News

DOUBLE-yellow lines are to be brought in on a Bournemouth town centre road after concerns over road safety and access.

Waiting will be prohibited at Yelverton Road between its junction with Richmond Hill and a point 72 metres from the junction with Old Christchurch Road.

Currently, parking is permitted between 7pm and 10am on one side of the road.

One objection was received against the plans, which were advertised and consulted upon, but the concerns were deemed to outweigh the objection.

Once the lines are put in place, which the council said should be in the coming weeks, it will mean no waiting on either side of the road.

Or, more likely, to reduce the number of places you can drop off/wait, thereby potentially increasing parking revenue or parking enforcement revenue as a result, rather like building on most of the open car parks in the area and claiming other car parks will be expanded to replace the lost capacity?

About time the local councils stopped whipping the motorists before they kill off the last remaining shops in town!

If in doubt, just splash lines of yellow paint everywhere and discourage everyone from coming to the town, what a great strategy.

Somewhere left to park cars in our old Town Centre, thank goodness they closed that loop hole, people might start shopping there next.

Meantime I understand that by contrast Castlepoint have NO plans to put down any new yellow lines in their car parks - anywhere, anytime, ever!

Safety concerns, my hairy backside, more like yet more revenue raising, before long it will be illegal to drive a car anywhere near Bournemouth town centre, I was under some stupid impression that councils were attempting to tempt people back to town centers, silly me, must have read that wrong.
