Poole Chinese restaurant shut down after hygiene complaints

Bournemouth Echo: CLOSED: Health officials are working with the owners so necessary improvements are made in order for the restaurant to reopen CLOSED: Health officials are working with the owners so necessary improvements are made in order for the restaurant to reopen

A CHINESE restaurant has been shut down on public health grounds by Borough of Poole inspectors.

Environmental and consumer protection officers investigated Real China, at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, after receiving a number of complaints from concerned diners.

Their investigation uncovered dirty food preparation and storage areas, a kitchen in ‘poor structural condition’ and items of substandard food equipment being used.

Investigators also revealed unsafe food handling processes were taking place and blocked drainage to one of the kitchen sinks.

On Tuesday they served the restaurant a notice effectively closing the business on hygiene grounds.

However, the council insists it will help the restaurant management with any of the improvements needed to enable them to reopen.

Jeff Morley regulatory team manager, Borough of Poole, confirmed: “We investigated Real China after receiving complaints from members of the public.

“We found that their hygiene standards had deteriorated to such a point that they posed significant risks of cross contamination of food and ultimately risks to public health.

“We will actively support Real China in carrying out the necessary improvements to enable them to reopen in the future.”

No-one was available to comment from the restaurant before the Daily Echo went to press. After the council served the notice, it was officially upheld at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court.

Before Real China can reopen management will have to satisfy Borough of Poole’s environmental and consumer protection services that all elements resulting in the closure have been addressed.

We stopped going to the Real China last November. Standards and quality had dropped alarmingly. The staff had changed every time we went. Emailed my concerns at the time. Never got a reply.
Didn't get the urge to try it again..

There is a photo flying around of one of the tables caked in mould. There have been stories about this place going on for weeks, The Food Standards agency should make it mandatory for all retail food outlets & restaurants to display their rating prominently, which is 1-5. As you can imagine it is only those establishments with a 5 that make a point of displaying their score. You can check yourself at http://ratings.food.

I've been in places with good hygiene ratings lately where the owner coughed repeatedly over the food, food was served by someone with black caked finger nails, food was partly stone cold and partly piping hot after being in a microwave and a the member of staff serving coughed into her hand then carried on serving, Three different places. Mainly small businesses.
All people UKIP would be happy to have living here I might add.
I'm sticking to sandwiches made at home.

Great shame, it opened as a well priced and decorated place with a decent standard of food. Of course the council will want to keep it open, it's a prime city centre site and no doubt a good business rate of return to them. Don't hold your breath about it re-opening soon.

My mother in law was the one to phone the council and complain. The tables were being less stacked with dirty plates, the food they were serving was cold and the ribs tasted weird. She's lucky she didn't get food poisoning. I'm quite honestly shocked the council allowed the standards to slip so much! Although, they were very quick to react after the phonecall

Ahh....sorry for above.

What frustrates me is this place had bred bad for a while and trip advisor highlights this so very clearly. The comments are the worst I have ever seen.

If only these were given to the local environmental health teams in such proportions I'm sure this place would have been closed down sooner.
I wonder how many of the posters that thought the place was a health risk actually told the people that could do something about it.

It would be interesting to know how many complaints prompted the visit.

I loved this place when it first opened and the now closed one at tower park. There used to be one in Dolphin Quays too but I'm told this has now closed down. My favourite used to be Bobs above the old town market though. Long gone when these big boys came into town.

Looks like I'm stuck eating kebabs now.
