A MAN was seen jogging naked near his home when police swooped to execute a search warrant at the premises he shared with his girlfriend.

Officers saw Gary Whetren about 100 metres away as they arrived at about 8am on a June morning but he absconded to his grandmother’s house where he was later arrested.

Prosecutor Siobhan Linsley said a search of the premises revealed 93 wraps of cocaine and some cocaine which had a combined street value of about £5,500.

When questioned, Whetren remained silent but his girlfriend, Beau Mason, admitted to being a recreational user of cocaine.

Whetren, 24, of Manor Road, New Milton, pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs which a judge heard was intended for friends and acquaintances. He was jailed for 18 months.

Mason, 23, of Treagore Road, Calmore, admitted allowing her home to be used for their supply.

As defence barrister David Reid was about to start his mitigation, Recorder Ben Compton QC said he was following the probation report recommendation and gave her a two-year community order with 18 months supervision.

Andrew Coley, defending, said Whetren – who had 15 previous convictions – had since sought help for his drug abuse which he accepted not only affected him but also his family.

Passing sentence at Southampton Crown Court, the judge said he had played a significant role in the case and had partly been motivated by financial gain.

“It seems you may have turned a corner but a custodial sentence is inevitable.”

The judge told the mother-of-one who had three previous convictions she had been given a huge opportunity.

“If you want to go on a life of cocaine use, it is a massive tension between that and bringing up a young child, which is difficult enough as it is,” he said.
