STUDENTS in Bournemouth and Poole are doing good deeds for a disability charity as part of National Student Volunteering Week.
Diverse Abilities Plus, which supports disabled children and adults and their families across Dorset, is set to benefit from the event, which runs from Monday to Sunday, March 2.
As part of the celebration, Bournemouth & Poole College is running a five-a-side football tournament on Friday, February 28 at the Littledown Centre from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Entry is £2 per person and all proceeds will go to Diverse Abilities Plus, which is also entering a team.
Students from Bournemouth University will also be getting involved in the week-long celebration by helping out and getting their hands dirty at one of the charity’s supported living properties where they will be gardening and redecorating one of the bedrooms for an adult Diverse Abilities supports. Sarah Harrison, volunteer and recruitment manager at Diverse Abilities Plus, said: “We are very excited to be involved with the nationwide celebration of student volunteering.
“It is a fantastic initiative which gets students involved in their local community so they can give something back to society.”
The charity will also be attending the Volunteer Fair organised by Bournemouth University’s Students’ Union on Wednesday, February 26, from 10am to noon at Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus, giving students the chance to find out more about volunteering with Diverse Abilities Plus.
