Man pleads guilty to meat cleaver attack after argument over drugs deal

TRIAL: Police outside a sealed-off property in Seaview Road, Poole

TRIAL: Anthony McDonagh

First published in News by

A MAN has admitted wounding with intent after a discussion about a drugs deal went badly wrong.

Anthony McDonagh, 21, of Albert Road in Poole, said he picked up a meat cleaver during an argument with Julian Bartlett at a property in Sea View Road, Parkstone.

He also accepted acting in an ‘unreasonable and excessive manner’ during a struggle with Mr Bartlett that caused him to be badly injured.

During a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court, McDonagh – who is currently in custody – pleaded guilty to the single charge.

Judge Samuel Wiggs read aloud the basis of plea.

He said: “You arrived at the address with two other men to discuss a drug deal.

“You are deaf. Matters between your group and Mr Barlett’s became heated. You accepted you picked up a meat cleaver, which was already at the property, because of an argument. You agree that you were holding the cleaver.

“He came towards you. You accept that you acted in an unreasonable and excessive manner by trying to hit him with the cleaver.

“There was a struggle between you in which Mr Bartlett was injured.

“As a result, your eyes were covered by blood and you could not see or hear.”

Sean Donaldson, 25, of Suffolk Road, Bournemouth, and John Sherwood, 26, of Hobbs Road, Poole are jointly charged with aggravated burglary, wounding with intent, and actual bodily harm in connection with the incident on September 16, 2013.

A trial is set to take place on March 24 at Bournemouth Crown Court.

McDonagh will be sentenced after the trial has concluded.

Donaldson has also pleaded not guilty to two charges alleged to have taken place on January 29 in Poole; stalking involving fear of violence, and assault by beating.

A trial for these separate charges will be held at the court on June 4.

Come on Echo, you must have recorded the details of the drugs and the quantites involved. How about a photo of the defendant as well as the public want to be able to identify those that threaten our neighbourhoods.

Throw them in a cage??? You only hear part of the story from the echo......what a mindless comment!!!
Lol, you will find that 'Kalebmoledirt', makes pointless comments on virtually every article in the echo and nearly always gets his facts wrong. He thinks that Belgium killed a giraffe because it was inbred, lol. Close, but not close enough to be commenting on. He also makes 3 or 4 statements that don't follow the line of any debate sequence.
I know that this has nothing to do with the above case but I do get fed up with the utter rubbish that gets written instead of meaningful debates on here.
I do believe that the man in question doesn't even live in the UK so why he spends so much of his time commenting on things that don't effect him.
What say you Kalebmoledirt mon amie?
