A RANGE of cleaning products designed for people with asthma is proving a success for a company in Christchurch.
The Solent Group, based at Queens Avenue in Christchurch, launched the Breathease range in Tesco last August and is in discussion with other retailers after what it calls a promising start.
Breathease is the first brand to have launched a range of cleaners accredited by Allergy Standards. During tests and analysis, 96 per cent of panellists told Breathease that household cleaning products triggered their asthma or allergies.
The company says even non-sufferers are finding the product preferable to their usual brands.
The firm says its Allergy Standards accreditation and the support of Asthma UK could prove a challenge for any ‘own brand’ imitations that emerge.
David Hiles, head of health promotion at Asthma UK, said: “Asthma UK is proud to be working in partnership with this new cleaning range designed with people with asthma and allergies in mind.
“Cleaning products are a common trigger for asthma symptoms and with more than 200 people being admitted to hospital every day with asthma attacks, we’re doing all we can to help people reduce their risk of an attack."
There are five million people with asthma and 21 million with allergies and no other brands targeting the market. Two hundred people a day are admitted to UK hospitals with asthma attacks.
Ninety-six per cent of asthma or allergy sufferers report household cleaning products exacerbate their condition.
The Solent Group invests, trades and supplies in five key categories: health, beauty and household; reusable bags and packaging; stationery; outdoor leisure; and promotional incentives.
It supplies many of the UK’s leading retailers through its integrated supply chain and aims to develop and produce innovative ranges.
