A FERNDOWN road has reopened more than a month after it flooded.
Stapehill Road first closed to traffic on December 23 after continuous rain submerged the lane.
Residents revealed at the beginning of the month that they had been trapped in their homes by the water, with one – mum-of-two Sara Keets – claiming that the road’s drainage ditch had “rarely been attended by the council during the last decade.”
On January 13, the Daily Echo reported that the surface water drainage system had broken, which needed to be repaired when the flood water receded.
But this afternoon, Dorset County Council confirmed that the road was finally open to motorists once again.
A spokesperson thanked locals for their patience during the work.
An alternative route from the Canford Bottom roundabout via Ham Lane or Wimborne Road West was in place during the closure.
