Fundraiser could help ill teen Lollie have holiday dream come true
A POORLY teenager from Turlin Moor could receive a well-needed holiday thanks to a fundraising event being held next month.
Olivia Russell, 16, known as Lollie, will be one of two beneficiaries of an evening of entertainment being held at The Twin Sail Wharf, in West Quay Road, on February 7.
Money from ticket sales will be split equally between Lollie, and the Piam Brown children’s cancer unit at Southampton General Hospital, where the teen receives care.
Lollie was first diagnosed with cancer aged five and following extensive treatment, the tumour in her head went away, but sadly returned just over a decade later She is due to undergo an operation in February.
Rebecca Way, who has organised the event with friends Nadia Hughes and Tracey Hudson, said: “People from Turlin Moor and those that used to live there, like me, are still a tight community.”
She added: “Lollie is very bubbly, happy and clever, and loves living life to the full, despite what she has been through.
“She wanted to go on holiday to Australia, but the fees for insurance are too high for that, so we are looking at some-where in Europe.
“I believe that if you can make someone’s dreams come true, you should try.”
Lollie’s mum, Michelle, said: “When Lollie was five, once the tumour was found following an MRI scan, the doctors said that it was the size of a golf ball and they would need to relieve the pressure on her brain.
“Then we got a call a month after Lollie had a routine scan in September 2013 to say that unfortunately, the tumour had come back.”
Lollie, who studies childcare at college, said: “Cancer doesn’t care who you are, where you’re from or if you have family, it just affects everyone. It’s time that it was killed off once and for all.”
Tickets for the evening cost £20, which includes comedian, Scott Charlton, cover band, Rock and Blue Co, raffle, auction and buffet. To buy tickets, email beckyboo100@ho tmail.com or visit justgiving.com/rebecca-way19
