DETECTIVES have released CCTV images of two people they want to quiz after armed robbers raided a post office in Bournemouth.

Two men held up the cashiers at the shop in Christchurch Road in Pokesdown/East Boscombe at around 2.35pm on Friday January 10.

They entered the Hambledon Road Post Office branch with their faces and heads covered and one man threatened a shop assistant with what is believed to be a handgun.

Some £300 cash was handed over to the offenders who left the store, and no one was injured in the incident.

They were last seen running down Hambledon Road in the direction of Meon Road.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Constable Leo Glendon, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “Following enquiries I am now able to release CCTV images.

“I am very keen to speak to the men pictured as they may have information which will assist in our investigation.

“I would ask these men or anyone who recognises them, to contact me urgently.”

Gokhan Cayir, 29, was working at the Premier newsagent next door when a “distressed” woman rushed in on Friday January 10.

“I had not heard anything, but a woman ran into the shop,” he said.

“She was very distressed, and she was crying. She said there had been a robbery. I went outside and saw two men running off.”

Other traders in Christchurch Road, near to the junction with Hambledon Road, said the robbery must have taken place “quickly and quietly”.

Angela Trott, owner of It’s Epic embroidery and printing shop across the road, saw the aftermath of the incident.

She said: “It is normally quiet round here. I was just saying yesterday I’m glad I don’t work somewhere with money on the premises, it’s scary.”

A member of the public reported that armed police stormed the Boscombe East Post Office branch first.

Witnesses can contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 10:241, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
