CCTV: can you identify man wanted over cash machine scam?

Bournemouth Echo: SEARCH: Police want to speak to this man about a cash machine scam in New Milton SEARCH: Police want to speak to this man about a cash machine scam in New Milton

THIS is the man police are hunting over a cash machine scam in the New Forest.

Detectives want witnesses to come forward after the suspect was caught on CCTV placing a skimming device on a cash point outside the Tesco store in Caird Avenue, New Milton.

Shoppers may have lost money as a result of the scam.

Now officers are highlighting the importance of shielding the keypad with one hand when typing the PIN with the other.

The suspect is described as aged between 25-35, white, and of thin build.

He was wearing a short black jacket, possibly leather, light blue jeans, and with short dark hair with a receding hairline at the sides.

PC Lawrence McKenna said: “These devices are placed on ATMs and are designed to read the card details as they are inserted and also take video footage of the users of the ATM putting in their PIN number – via a pinhole camera above the keypad.

“These are rare devices and a rare occurrence in our area. They are usually well made and at first glance are very difficult to spot as they blend in perfectly with the ATM itself.

“UK banks are victims of various frauds and thefts. These losses add up and are immense.

“Battling this loss is in everyone’s interest.

“We have various lines of enquiry ongoing and if anyone recognises this man or has any information please contact me.”

The incident took place at 5.55am on November 28.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

it would be useful if you could publish a photo of a skimming device so we know what to look for

I always cover the keypad with one hand when using these machines and check the card slot first before inserting my card.

It's a good idea to check the card slot first but do you really know what you're looking for? These devices are very cleverly made and don't look out of place when fitted to an ATM.

Would it be possible to have some apparatus that could be triggered when one of these devices is planted perhaps spray indelible paint in the rascal face.snap on a pair of hand cuffs rip his trousers off and spray Vic vapour rud on his bits place a flashing winky pot on his head, and place a sign around his neck starting that Saville was misunderstood
Would make it difficult in court when he,s appealing against deportation

Deportation, life in jail hard labour, scrapping of benefit rights, sadly if he is caught, he will get a suspended jail term & if foreign plead human rights!
What about the rights of his victims he stole from?

Cash points should be placed inside buildings so if a machine is tampered with the security doors lock the culprit inside!

When he is caught can the victims take something of his?

He will almost certainly be Romanian. It's their favourite crime, slightly ahead of pickpocketing. They use what is known as a 'lebanese loop' to capture the card so they can pull it out and use it.

It's very very common in London and big cities. The Romanians have been here for years already. Just not with the freedom to work.

Thankyou Labour, thanks Tories. Cameron has been in power for 3 1/2 years and is suddenly panicking in the last week or so about how to not let any more in. Useless clown.

One little thing that is urking me lately is that nobody, in the street or on TV seems to be able to pronounce Romania correctly.

They say it as Roo-mania.

When Wayne Rooney signed for Man Utd there was indeed Roo-mania at the club.

So lets please all get it right for the new year. It's pronounced Rome-mania.

Thankyou.
