A COMMUNITY cafe in Wareham is celebrating after securing a £50,000 grant to complete much-needed building works.

Customers, volunteers and trustees at the Not Just Sundaes cafe, South Street, pictured right, were thrilled with the funding boost, which came courtesy of The Talbot Village Trust.

They’ll be using the money to complete the final phase of work to the listed building, which includes improving access for disabled people.

However, it does mean that the cafe, which has been running in Wareham for a year, will have to close for a couple of months in the New Year, to allow the work to get under way.

Project chairman Andy Bowerman said: “This is fantastic news and is a great way to end an amazing year for the project.

“We would like to thank all those that have visited us at Not Just Sundaes and supported this new venture in Wareham.

“Whether through buying coffee, making a cake, designing an ice cream, popping in on a Friday night, fundraising, volunteering or just wishing us well, the community should be proud that they have made the project the success it has become.”

The Talbot Village Trust helps hundreds of organisations, charities, churches and schools in Dorset every year.

Clerk to the trust Gary Cox said: “Not Just Sundaes is an important asset to the community and we are pleased to be able to support this project.”

The cafe should reopen in the Spring, organisers say.
