Rapidly-growing business forum meets pupils set to transform future of Kinson
MEMBERS of a rapidly-growing group hoping to transform Kinson’s fortunes have taken a tour of a school that is also on the up.
Kinson Business Forum has been set up with the aim of galvanising the community in the area and has now signed up more than 50 businesses and organisations in just a few months.
As part of its drive to forge links in the community, representatives were given a tour of the newly-revamped Bourne Academy.
Chairman of the forum, Ramesh Lal, said: “The idea behind this is that Kinson Business Forum is supporting a positive environment and structure that’s newly-completed in the area.
“I was here for the opening a few weeks ago and we have been invited back and we think this represents the future of this area.
“This is what we have been talking about and we’re in complete support of what’s going on at the Bourne Academy.
“We hope to develop links and career chances for the students here.”
Caroline Gobell, business director at the academy, said it was keen to develop links with the wider community – it is running a scheme called Bourne Ambassadors where sixth formers are mentored by businesses.
“What we’re trying to do is create stronger links with the community and the business community.
“It brings real life into the school and gets the students into the real world.
“There are various things the business community can do, such as work placements and where sixth formers get mentors who will give them some experience and spark thought,” she added.
