Animal rights organisation offers £1,000 reward for information over shot Hamworthy cat
A LEADING animal rights organisation has offered a £1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the air gun thug who crippled a Hamworthy cat.
One-and-a-half year old family pet, Phoenix, had to have her front leg amputated after it was shattered by an air gun pellet.
Phoenix, a pale-ginger, was discovered by its shocked owner, Vicky Willan, outside the family home in Lake Drive last month.
Vicky’s two young daughters, aged 13 and 10, were also left upset by the cowardly attack.
“Phoenix was so distressed and, although she is recovering, this has really upset her and it is so sad seeing her like this,” said Vicky.
Animal rights organisation, People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), was so sickened by the shooting that they’ve offered the reward to bring Phoenix’s attackers to justice.
PETA spokesman Ben Williamson: “It is imperative that any community faced with the abuse of animals take measures to find the culprit or culprits and stop the violence.
“Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take out their issues on whomever is available to them, human or non-human.”
The RSPCA, which is calling for tighter controls on all air weapons, warns those responsible for the attack could face up to six months in prison.
Phoenix was shot sometime between late September 10 and the morning of September 13, when she was discovered at the front of her Hamworthy home crying and unable to bear weight on her right front leg.
Vicky said: “We hope that seeing the consequences of this sort of attack will make someone think twice before shooting at an animal in the future.”
