Windsurfers rescued in Poole Harbour
TWO windsurfers were rescued by a Poole lifeboat crew after getting into difficulties near Whitley Lake.
The RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched after the coastguard received reports of someone ‘screaming for help’ around 2.30pm on Saturday.
Three windsurfers were found clinging onto the back of a moored yacht on the edge of the North Channel.
One of the windsurfers had gone to help the other two, so when the lifeboat arrived he departed.
Both remaining windsurfers were transferred onto the lifeboat. One of these casualties, a woman, was suffering from the cold and she was later treated by paramedics.
After taking the windsurfers back to the shore the lifeboat was sent to help the Swanage lifeboat crew and take over a tow.
The Swanage lifeboat had been escorting the 23ft yacht, Reginald, which had been en-route to Poole when it got into difficulties in Swanage Bay.
The Poole lifeboat took over the tow south of Old Harry Rocks and brought the vessel, with one person on board, safely back to Poole Quay Boat Haven.
