Swell Watersports Festival set to be best ever
SURFERS and lifesavers will be enjoying a festival of watersports on Boscombe beach next weekend.
The two-day Swell Watersports Festival, incorporating the Sorted Surf Festival, includes board, ski, kite surf, SUP and ocean kayak races and a surfing competition, as well as an open water swimming race on Sunday, September 29, open to all.
The weekend kicks off on Saturday with the Battle of the Paddle race which will see competitors sprint from the beach to their board before launching into the water.
On dry land the event, organised by Surf Life Saving GB and Sorted Surf Shop in Sea Road, has an exhibition village hosting a number of top watersports brands.
There will also be beach volleyball on offer and an after party for all festival guests.
Esther Pearson, chief executive of Surf Life Saving GB, said: “Swell festival is a fantastic opportunity for competitors and volunteers to demonstrate their skills, strengths and knowledge of the sea.
“In 2012 we had a fantastic event with great weather and huge crowds, but this year’s event promises to be even better, with races open to beginners and an extensive exhibitors’ village – there really is something for everyone.”
The festival is open to amateur participants with a variety of taster sessions, and races for youngsters aged eight and upwards.
Entry to spectators is free but for competitors costs are £15 for entry into one race or £25 for unlimited weekend racing.
