A BOSCOMBE care home is under threat of closure and needs 'significant investment' to meet the quality of care required for residents.

BCP Council has confirmed that Fairways Care Home, owned by Tricuro, on Owls Road, Boscombe, is at risk of closure and that only 23 of its 64 rooms remain in use.

BCP has stated for it to stay open, the building would need improvement work to make it suitable for residents.

Cllr David Brown, BCP Council portfolio holder for health and wellbeing said: “BCP Council are currently consulting with residents and their families about the potential closure of Fairways Care Home.

"Fairways Care Home is a 70-bed residential home in Bournemouth. Although it has 64 rooms, it is only registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to accommodate 39 residents, of which only 23 rooms are currently in use.

"The building requires significant investment to bring it up to the required standards to effectively meet the care needs of our residents."

A total of 25 residents were reported in the building in 2023 as of the latest CGC report.

The low number of residents was attributed to the fact that the building was waiting for refurbishment.

As reported by the Echo, the care home received an improved rating in 2023 after consecutive 'require improvement' ratings.

The report rated the home as being good across all areas of the inspection.

Cllr Brown said: "We want to understand the concerns residents may have about a potential closure. We will be talking to them and their families over the coming month about the impact it may have, and if needed, the process in place for arranging alternative accommodation to meet their needs.

"We are working in partnership with Tricuro to ensure that residents are fully supported throughout this process.”

The CQC report stated that the service was 'consistently managed and well-led' with residents claiming that the home treated her 'like a princess'.

During the inspection, CQC spoke to nine residents about their experience of care and eight members of staff.
