AN ELDERLY man was taken to hospital after a single-car crash that closed a road in Ferndown.

Dorset Police were called to White Oaks Close at 8.42pm on Monday, May 13 after reports of a collision with a Toyota Yaris.

Ringwood Road was closed by police between Victoria Road and Woodside Road in both directions.

The elderly driver was taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service and the  severity of his injuries is unknown. 

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Ferndown and Redhill. 

Ferndown fire station shared on social media that the driver lost control of the vehicle in the heavy rain, causing the car to leave the road and come to rest on its side. 

The vehicle was recovered, and road closures were lifted around 12.25am.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report at 8.42pm on Monday 13 May 2024 of a single vehicle collision in White Oaks Close in Ferndown.

“Officers attended and road closures were put in place.

“The male driver was taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service.

“The vehicle was recovered and road closures lifted at around 12.25am.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 20:44hrs on Monday 13 May to an road traffic incident in Ferndown.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances to the scene and conveyed one person by land ambulance to Poole Hospital."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Ferndown and Redhill Park were called to White Oaks Close, Ferndown at 8.48pm yesterday (13 May) following reports of a road traffic collision.

"On arrival, firefighters found a car on its side which they stabilised and then freed a casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment.

"Our stop was in at 9.51pm."
