DORSET Police seized several weapons including a sword and arrested a Bournemouth man on suspicion of possession of a firearm in a public place. 

The 47-year-old Bournemouth man was detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place and possession of an electrical incapacitation device from a house on Wallisdown Road on May 1. 

After securing a warrant, police searched the house and found several weapons including air weapons, knives, swords, knuckle dusters and a baton.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Following information received about a report of the possession of a firearm at an address in Wallisdown Road in Bournemouth, officers executed a warrant at the property during the afternoon of Wednesday 1 May 2024. A second warrant was executed at an address in Holdenhurst Road.

"He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue."

"This was a targeted operation following information received by Dorset Police and there is no information to suggest any wider threat to members of the public in the area."

Police were seen outside the phone repair store, Cyber Services, Holdenhurst Road, on the day of the search. 

A BMW was seen being towed away from the property.
