IT is nearly one year since multiple cars were torched in neighbouring towns.

The 13 vehicles were set alight across the Broadstone, Wimborne and Merley areas in the early hours of Monday, May 15, 2023.

The locations with reported arson incidents included Wentworth Drive, Oakley Road, Merley Way, Stour Walk, New Borough Road, Grove Road and Leigh Road.

Two properties were also affected by the fires.

The fires left residents stunned, with many waking to see their cars engulfed in flames outside their homes shortly after 1am.

By the morning, burnt-out vehicles could be seen dotted around, with scorch marks on the roads and the smell of smoke lingering in the air.

Police launched an investigation into the arsons and appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

A local man aged in his 40s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of arson.

He was later released and has remained on police bail ever since.

His bail period is due to expire at the beginning of June.
