BROADSTONE Art Society's longest-serving member has passed away.

Dennis Hill has died at the age of 99 with the society describing him as a 'enthusiastic painter'.

A statement given by Broadstone Art Society said: "It is great sadness that the members of Broadstone Art Society have said goodbye to their longest serving member, Dennis Hill who at aged 99 years old was still an enthusiastic artist coming along to paint both inside at the club and in the summer en plein air.

"Dennis joined the club in 1956 and has been both chairman and president. He painted in water colours, acrylics, and oils.

"He was also very generous and donated many paintings to charity. He was very talented and gave encouragement as well as constructive advice to many members."

Dennis's art had previously been accepted at the Royal Institute, Royal West of England Academy, Royal Marine Artists, and Royal Water Colour Society.

In his memory, Broadstone Art Society will display a selection of Dennis' paintings at its next exhibition,  which will run between May 25 and June 2 at the Youth Centre, Moor Road, Broadstone.

The society began in 1953 meaning Dennis was involved for nearly its entire history.
